Projects: Research solar car batteries

 

 

I joined the solar car team for a quarter, and my assignment is to study the types of battery chemistries available for solar cars. The team did not want to use lead-acid because of its weight, even though it is cheap and stable. Ni-cad and NiMH did not appeal to us because for the cost and design requirements, such as stability, we might as well go for ions. So Lithium-ions became a good option for the new battery pack, because of its high energy density. Although polymers used even more advanced technology, the batteries cost too much for the team to afford. Print preview of the report is below.
