Projects: EA2 design problem

EA2 is Northwestern's Engineering Analysis 2: Statics. It is a required engineering class. One of the final assignments was to design a weight scale with given components. I just needed to realize the non-linear relationship between the weight display and the springs. The professors wanted good sensitivity, so I just had to utilize the entire 180 degrees swing of the display.

I used Matlab to design the scale and analyze the previous scales given in the problem. The report would have been short, but I needed to write out all the calculations and design notes, so it took 25 pages and 4169 words. The print preview is shown below.
